Trucking company prepares privacy policies and procedures and designates a privacy officer subsequent to settling complaint from former employee
Settled case summary #6
Complaint
An individual complained that his former employer, a trucking company, had disclosed personal information about him to other trucking firms after his employment was terminated.
Outcome
Following lengthy discussions with the trucking company's legal representatives and the complainant, an agreement was reached by both parties to settle the complaint.
Although the original complaint did not address the lack of a company privacy policy or the absence of a designated privacy representative, these issues were addressed by the Office. The transport company agreed to develop privacy policies and procedures, and after doing so, forwarded a copy of them to the Office as confirmation of completion. At the time of the settlement, the trucking company also had a privacy officer in place.
The complaint was settled during the course of the investigation in June 2004.
