The majority of Canadians are concerned about their privacy

[An icon representing a person appears on the screen. It is in a white circle. Many different icons appear around the person icon, including icons for thumbs-up, a dollar sign, a map, an email symbol and other people. These represent your personal information.]

Text appears on screen: And many feel like they’ve lost control over how their data is used

[Some of the icons around the person icon move away and then disappear.]

Text appears on screen: Businesses that are proactive on privacy enjoy their customers’ confidence and trust

[An image of a small business and an image of circle with three icons representing people appear above the text. A checkmark appears between the two images.]

Text appears on screen: Be privacy proficient

[Above the text, an icon representing a person appears in the middle of the screen. A circle with breaks in it surrounds the person, and then becomes a solid white circle. The circle then turns yellow and expands outward.]

It’s the law. How can you ensure the consent you obtain from your customers is meaningful?

You can only collect, use or disclose personal information if a reasonable person would consider it appropriate (the OPC has guidance on that)

[The lines under the person icon disappear.]
