Privacy Commissioner discusses cyber security bill before Senate committee

November 18, 2024 – Ottawa, Ontario

Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Philippe Dufresne, appeared today before the Standing Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Veterans Affairs (SECD) to assist the Committee in its study of Bill C-26, An Act respecting cyber security, amending the Telecommunications Act and making consequential amendments to other Acts.

In his remarks, Commissioner Dufresne noted that stronger cybersecurity protections promote privacy by reducing the likelihood and impact of data breaches.
