New online breach reporting forms for federal institutions and businesses

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has launched a new online breach reporting form for federal institutions subject to the Privacy Act as well as updated its online breach reporting form for businesses subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The new online form for federal institutions makes the process of reporting a breach seamless. They can enter all relevant details of a breach and then review and edit this information online. The completed report can then be submitted via this online form to both the OPC and the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat at the same time, and institutions can download a copy to keep for their records.

As for businesses, the updated form makes it easy for them to submit new privacy breach reports and related documents and also gives businesses the ability to add documents to existing breach reports.
