Privacy Commissioner to investigate privacy breach at Global Affairs Canada
February 26, 2024
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) will investigate a data breach at Global Affairs Canada involving a cyberattack on an internal network.
The personal information of users, including employees, was compromised after unauthorized individuals accessed the department’s virtual private network (VPN).
The investigation was launched after the OPC received several complaints about the matter. It will examine the adequacy of the safeguards that are in place to protect personal information and assess compliance with the Privacy Act, which applies to federal departments and agencies.
