Privacy Commissioner announces appointment to new Deputy Commissioner position

Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne welcomes Marc Chénier in the newly created position of Deputy Commissioner and Senior General Counsel.
Mr. Chénier, who comes to the privacy world with extensive experience in the public service, begins today in his new role.
“This new position reflects the importance of the Legal Services team to the work of the Office in a privacy landscape that is increasingly more challenging and complex,” said Commissioner Dufresne.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Chénier was Deputy Commissioner and Chief Legal Counsel at the Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections.
Mr. Chénier began his career at the Department of Canadian Heritage before moving to Elections Canada and the Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections. He has also worked at the Privy Council Office, where he gained experience on a variety of electoral system reform issues and election bills.
