Privacy Commissioner to appear before Parliamentary committee to discuss proposed amendments to the Elections Act

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Philippe Dufresne, will appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs to discuss Division 39 of Bill C-47, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 28, 2023.

The Bill includes amendments to the Canada Elections Act that would authorize political parties and their affiliates to collect, use, disclose, retain and dispose of personal information in accordance with the party’s own privacy policy.
