New blogs offer advice for businesses and individuals on protecting privacy on mobile apps

Many organizations use apps to improve their interactions with customers and often collect their clients’ personal information to do so.

The OPC has created two new blogs to promote best practices for mobile apps: one for business to share best practices, and one offering tips on protecting privacy for individuals who download the apps.

A year ago this month, a joint investigation carried out by the OPC along with its counterparts in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia found that the Tim Hortons app inappropriately collected vast amounts of sensitive location data. Over the last year, the privacy authorities have worked with Tim Hortons on the implementation of the report’s recommendations.
