Information Commissioner assumes privacy duties on interim basis

Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard has been appointed Interim Privacy Commissioner of Canada, effective Saturday June 4th. Her appointment is made under Section 55 of the Privacy Act, which allows the Information Commissioner to also exercise the duties of the Privacy Commissioner.

She will hold the position until October 31, 2022, or until such time as a new privacy commissioner is appointed, whichever comes first. This appointment is in addition to her existing duties as Information Commissioner, a job she began on March 1, 2018.

Ms. Maynard will exercise the full powers and responsibilities of Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will continue to operate business as usual.
