OPC publishes new Privacy Guide for Businesses
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is making it easier for businesses to protect their customers’ privacy with the newly updated Privacy Guide for Businesses.
The Privacy Guide for Businesses, published today, provides organizations with a summary of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and explains how the Act applies.
The guide includes requirements for mandatory breach reporting, as well as the OPC’s guidelines for obtaining meaningful consent, which offer practical and actionable advice for an online environment.
Businesses will also find an overview of Canada’s anti-spam legislation, which reinforces best practices in email marketing and seeks to combat spam and related issues.
The guide includes a brief overview of the OPC’s business advisory services and how businesses can get help and advice on the privacy impacts of new programs as well as tips to better manage privacy day-to-day.
