OPC submits views on draft data breach regulations

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has sent a letter to the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) providing comments on the proposed Breach of Security Safeguards Regulations pursuant to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. The letter outlines the OPC’s views and recommendations related to the content of breach reports to the Privacy Commissioner, record keeping requirements, and the timeframe for the coming into force of the regulations.

The letter follows the OPC’s 2016 submission to ISED’s breach discussion document.
