Summary
Click if You Agree is an interactive game, offered in English and in French, for preteens and teens ages 12-14 that teaches them how to read and understand privacy policies and terms of use by showing them how to scan for and identify the information which matters most. The game has been developed in HTML5 and can be used on tablets, desktop computers and laptops.
The game includes four scenarios popular with teens: an online multiplayer game, a music store, a photo application and a social media site. Each scenario includes a privacy policy or terms of use document written in legal-sounding language (along with plain-language translations).
In each scenario, players:
- Are given a question relating to the scenario that they need to answer;
- Are prompted to select three keywords that are relevant to their question;
- Scan the terms of use or privacy policy for sections and explanations that are relevant to the keywords; and
- Choose from one of three possible answers, based on their understanding of what they are agreeing to in the document.
Click if You Agree is accompanied by a comprehensive Teacher's Guide that includes an overview of the game, exercises for students and handouts for parents.
