International memorandums of understanding
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) gives the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) authority to cooperate with foreign data protection and privacy regulators on issues that affect individuals outside Canada.
The OPC can share expertise and information obtained through investigations with international counterparts.
The OPC’s ability to share information with international counterparts is subject to certain conditions, most notably a requirement for a written arrangement with the other party.
That arrangement must contain confidentiality provisions limiting the use of any information the OPC shares or receives.
This page lists the internationally signed written arrangements the OPC has in place.
