International Symposium on Privacy and Generative AI
Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne welcomed experts from academia, industry, civil society, and government as well as fellow data privacy authorities to Canada’s National Capital Region to discuss the opportunities and risks involved in generative AI and how all sectors can best work together to prepare for them.
Highlights
- The Symposium featured panel discussions looking at the question of generative AI from three important angles: the opportunities and risks that the technology offers; its governance and regulatory environment; and the relationship between generative AI technologies and human rights.
- Commissioner Dufresne and provincial and territorial privacy authorities launched a set of principles to advance the responsible and trustworthy use of generative AI in Canada.
- The 72nd meeting of the International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology (also known as the Berlin Group) was held in conjunction to the Symposium from December 7 and 8, 2023.
