  • Mr. McKinnon worked as a meteorological technician for Environment Canada’s Atmospheric Environment Service (1970s).
  • He obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, and an honours diploma in Computer Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
  • Mr. McKinnon is a former political blogger advocating for electoral reform.
  • Successful business owner and computer systems analyst, specializing in document management systems and development services to major firms in Canada, the US, and overseas.

PRIOR TO ELECTION:

  • Hon. Rempel Garner served in a senior managerial capacity at the University of Calgary. Prior to this, she was engaged as a managerial consultant in Calgary, applying her knowledge of intellectual property management within a professional service framework in the areas of strategic planning, project management, process reengineering, and marketing where she gained insight in the health and educational sectors.
  • Hon. Rempel Garner worked in the technology commercialization division of the University of Manitoba, where she assisted in administering commercialization strategies for a portfolio of over 200 emerging technologies.
  • She holds a degree in Economics.

  • Prior to being elected to office, Mr. Barlow had a distinguished career in Journalism. John served as the Associate Publisher and Editor for the Okotoks Western Wheel, and Senior Editor Southern Alberta for Greatwest supervising newspapers in Airdrie, Cochrane, Canmore, Okotoks and Rockyview County
  • Mr. Barlow is a member of several industry organizations, including the Journalism Advisory Boards at SAIT and Mount Royal University.
  • After high school he studied Political Science at the University of Regina, and transferred over to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) to study Journalism where he graduated in 1993 with Honours.

PRIOR TO ELECTION:

  • Before joining Parliament, Mr. Davies worked as a lawyer, labour representative, and policy advisor. He has worked with private sector businesses to improve their human resources practices and served on many public bodies dealing with health and safety, employment standards, and transportation policy.
  • Mr. Davies education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Degree in Law.

PRIOR TO ELECTION:

  • Prior to election, Mr. Powlowski served in a number of roles as a medical doctor, including most recently working as a physician in the Emergency Room at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. He also practiced medicine for two years in northern First Nations communities and for seven years Swaziland, The Gambia, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu.
  • Mr. Powlowski worked as a consultant in health legislation for the World Health Organization.
  • In addition to practicing medicine, Mr. Powlowski also earned a law degree (LL.B, University of Toronto), Masters of Public Health in Health Law and Policy (Harvard University), and a Masters of Law (Georgetown University, Washington D.C.), and has taught at several universities, including Lakehead University and the University of San Francisco.

  • Mr. Van Bynen served as the Mayor of Newmarket for 12 years.
  • Mr. Van Bynen had a 30-year career in banking, and past service as the President of the Chamber of Commerce. He has delivered innovative solutions to help local businesses owners have a path to success, including creating the Envi broadband network so businesses have ultra-high speed connectivity.
